Ezra's 2nd Birthday Party!

I really, really thought I'd finished and posted this weeks ago.  Really.

Turns out I'd only dumped all the photos in and forgotten about it.  I seem to do that more often than I'd like ;-)

So, here's Ezra's 2nd Birthday Party!  We had it at Liberty Station, which happens to be right down on the water in Point Loma.  I've been there a lot and never had a problem with ridiculous wind.  Until the day of his party...which was SO windy that our borrowed canopy couldn't be put up to a normal height,  as it had attempted to make a break for it and go for a swim in the water.

Luckily, my dear friend was there to take charge and she made a mini-tent area for the kids (or seated adults!) to enjoy.

Also, due to the crazy winds, most of the decorations didn't get to make an appearance...much to my dismay.  I'd spent most of my free time during naptimes and after Ez went to bed working on street signs, clever names for the food (to tie in the theme), etc.  I didn't even get to set up his cupcakes, which were firey-flames to go with his firetruck...and by the time we got around to serving them, they looked more like scrambled eggs on top of mini cupcakes than fire.  They still tasted pretty good, so I'll take that as point in my favor.

On the bright side, the kids did love the cardboard box cars that I'd made -- and the pics of them driving were super cute :)

Overall, it was a good day!  The kids had a lot of fun, Ezra got to see all of his buddies one last time before we moved, and there were surprisingly few tantrums ;-)  

Tuesday Playdate

We went on our last Tuesday playdate...without realizing it was the real last one.  See, I knew I wasn't leaving for a week & a half...but I forgot that I wouldn't be meeting up for a playdate while my Mom was in town.  

When all was said and done, it was actually a perfect San Diego day and a really great time for Ez and for me.  We started off at the 6th Ave playground, where Ez's bestie, Claire, met up with us & we walked over to Balboa Park via the Laurel Street bridge (a classic me-and-Ez morning activity).  Ez & Claire's friend, Kate, joined us and we walked around the park, settling near the Koi pond.  Lunch, some playtime, some potty accidents, and some other hilarity ensued.  The weather was beautiful.  It was a perfect way to say goodbye to my favorite place.

I was snapping away as Ez and Claire were laughing uncontrollably at each other.  I, unknowingly, caught the moment just before a potty accident occurred.  Whoops!  (And just to lay it all out there, Ez was in his "back-up" shorts by the time this pic was taken...)

A couple days later, I sent Jordan in to help Ez wake up.  I heard Ez cracking up and throwing himself around, so I grabbed the camera and snapped a few pics...

I have to read that a couple times a day.

I was ready to be (and was being) a complete punk about this move.  I didn't want to move and leave our friends and the place that I feel at home.  I was supportive of Jordan and the decision to move, but I was far too transparent with my feelings about it.

Childish?  Yes.  And do I still have moments where I just whine (to myself, mostly) about how I want to go home?  Yep.  But I'm working on it.  It's not that bad here.  The house that we're in now is about twice the size of our old place, plus we have a 2 car garage (storage space!!).  We've ventured over to the playground a couple blocks away and Ez has already made some friends...and I can happily report that the moms & nannies are nice, too :)  I know this is a good thing.

So, to get you up to speed....we moved on a Friday.  Got here about 4pm -- which was approximately 2 hours after the gas man was here to turn on the gas.  We got it turned back on yesterday afternoon (Tuesday).  Cold, cold showers are no fun...and nighttime diaper laundry has been piling up...which I'm happy to report can now be washed -- thanks to the washing machine repairman who just fixed my washer that crapped out the night we got here ;-)  It's been a fun few days here, folks.

Here's an on-going list that we've been compiling since we got here...called, Things We Never Said In San Diego...

-Can you put this in the dishwasher?
- No, no...it's in the OTHER closet.  Nope, not that one either.  The other one.
-I can't hear you...I'm on the other side of the house.
-Oh, the washer & dryer is inside the house?  What?  With it's own closet and storage?  What?
-Just put it on the kitchen counter...there's plenty of room.
-Yeah, it's in the bathroom.  Oh, no...the other one.
-Honey?  Is this bathroom in the shape of Nevada?

And for the record, our master bath toilet "closet" is, in fact, in the shape of Nevada.

So, here's a few pictures of the boy since we've been here.  I haven't actually been taking many photos recently because I'm mostly unpacking and playing with Mini-Man.  It'll get better...

 Here he is, indulging in some coconut-milk ice cream because I'm a sucker and he had done well with his potty training that day ;-)

I kept telling him to turn around and look at me so I could snap a photo...so naturally he just laid down on the floor...?  Also, my vacuum was in San Diego, awaiting the final cleaning and walk-thru, so my floors here suffered the consequences for a week.  Trust me when I tell you that it was a glorious experience to finally vacuum up all the moving crap and dog hair that accumulated in that week.

 This child will pick up my camera, hold it out away from his face and say "cheeeeeeeese".....but ask him to look my way for a photo while he's having fun?  No-can-do.

He decided that picking up rocks (there's 57 million of them) and throwing them randomly into the grass was REALLY FUN.  

And finally, Ez...looking a little 'Squatchy...caught in the act of terrorizing the chihuahua while checking out his new backyard.

Two Years!

Two!  Two! Two!  Ezra is TWO years old!

It finally happened.  In spite of my vain attempts to stop time...or at least slow it down...my Little Man turned 2.  He's seriously the coolest kid ever and I'm so lucky to be his mom.

Here's a little of what Easy-E has been up to and in to lately...

-The Cat In The Hat is still the reigning favorite.  He loves to read the book, watch the PBS show in the car, and also watch (or occasionally watch, mostly listen to) the live-action movie.  He's got a hat like the cat, a whole collection of Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About That books, and he still isn't satisfied ;-)

-He's doing really, really well with potty training.  With a few exceptions/accidents, he's daytime-potty-trained.  Nighttime is the next hurdle.  He sleeps in our bed...so I'm not jumping into a no-diaper situation until I know he can hold it that long.

-He's a world-class jumper!  Both feet...off the ground...it's a spectacular sight to see!

-Speech is on a steady increase since about 1.5 months ago.  He's still signing, using his incredibly vast vocabulary on a regular basis.

-Vehicles of any kind can make the boy happy.  If it's a police car, ambulance or fire truck...he's ecstatic.  Seriously, he's got quite a collection going of stickers given to him by policemen, EMT's, etc, because he's just so enchanted with them and their vehicles that they always engage him and end up giving him a sticker.  He's such a lucky boy :)

-The zoo would be a part of his daily activities if he had it his way (and he did for a little while!).  His favorite animals to see are the gorillas, elephants, giraffes, and hippos.  Also, a trip to the zoo is not complete without at least one ride on the SkyFari.

-Favorite foods/snacks include raw broccoli, mango, avocado, tacos, frozen blueberries, peas, Cheddar Bunnies, and my super-delicious quinoa burgers.

-He LOVES to play with his food & kitchen toys.  And my very real appliances that he insists on having on his table.  I think I see a play-kitchen in his future.

-An affirmative answer from Ezra sounds like "Ayuh" and a negative is "No, no, nooooo".....and it's never NOT funny when he says either one :)

-He runs around saying, very dramatically, "Oh, no!" at everything.

-He's funny, sweet, snuggly, smart, intuitive, and energetic.  He's hands down, the most amazing person I've ever met.  And I tell him every.single.day.

We had a mini-birthday celebration today at the zoo.  I made some cupcakes (had to try out the cake and icing recipes before the party!)...and we just moseyed around the zoo, doing whatever Ez wanted to do.  He had a great time.

After his nap, it was time for some presents.  He opened up a couple small ones in the house...then went outside for his big one :)

Here's another one of him driving...he'll get the hang of it eventually.  Maybe once he can sit comfortably and still reach the pedal :)

I think he had a pretty great day today.  Next Saturday is his party...which means I've got to finish up all the last minute details this week!

23 Months!

I'm simultaneously so excited and so sad that my little boy is getting so close to being 2.  This past month has brought a lot of growth for him - he's physically bigger, he's getting more consistent with eating, and his speech has really started to take off.  He's really turning into such a cool kid and I couldn't be more proud of him :)

Here's a little of what he's been up to:

-He is putting forth some serious effort to talk!  He says some pretty silly/odd words, too...he can say "Audi" (he's got a RC car that's an Audi), "onion," "bat," "ball," "ice," "hat," "ham" (due to his Green Eggs and Ham book) and a few more I can't remember.  He signs all the normal words that I expected him to be saying (and then some).  Actually, he is still surprising me with how many signs he knows.  Kid is a sponge.

-The Cat in the Hat is his most favorite thing EVER.  He requires the movie to be playing while he plays, dances, reads, etc.  ALL. THE. TIME.

-He is so close to getting both feet off the ground when he "jumps"... it's really adorable right now and I secretly love that he hasn't mastered it yet!

-He says "Whoooaaa!" rather emphatically, all the time.  When he likes something, when something unexpected happens, really anytime.

-He tells us which animals he wants to see at the zoo and will also tell us the sounds that they make...which is always good for a laugh :)

-He's started to swing on any bar he sees...Just like the monkeys do at the zoo.  Damn monkeys.

-Brushing teeth is no longer a tantrum-throwing event.  Thank you, Cat in the Hat movie, for having a scene where the Cat brushes his teeth.  Thank you.

-I'd all but given up on potty-training until a couple days ago.  Now, he seems to be really into it and I think we'll be making some serious progress over the next couple weeks!!  He even does a potty dance!

-The car/truck/motorcycle/ambulance/police car/bicycle/firetruck obsession continues.  Thankfully...as this is the general theme for his party this year ;-)

-The Cat in the Hat, Go Dog Go, Green Eggs and Ham, and various Elmo/Sesame Street titles are among his go-to books.

-He's the most amazing little boy I've ever known.  And I tell him every.single.day.

A quick catch-up

A LOT has been going on over the last month.  Well, I guess it's not really a lot...just one really big decision that has lead to a lot of time doing things other than updating this blog.

We're moving.

To Vegas.

In October.  

Yes, I'm sad.  Devastated, actually, to be leaving San Diego.  I am in love with this city.  This is home.  

But, it's a wonderful opportunity for Jordan - he'll be working with our great friends Job & Brandi - and it's bound to be a good thing.

Aaand, that's all I can say about that without getting too crazy-emotional...

Here's Ez at a friend's birthday party.  Naturally, he was attached to one of the toy cars.  He spent all of his time either driving this car around or playing in one of the baby pools or at the water table.  Clearly, the party was a hit with my kid ;-)

Jordan went to Vegas for the week, so me and Ez have been on our own.  Sunday evening, we went over to a friend's house for some playtime and to watch Hunger Games.  We didn't stay long once the movie started (Ez was a little tired) but rest assured, I'd already watched it 1.5 times ;-)  Netflix came through and I got it on the release date!  Turned out to be a really good movie, and like always, I'm glad I read the book(s) first.  Too much to fit into a movie.  

Anyways...here's a cute picture of Ez and another guest for the screening.  I think they were plotting against us in the little pop-up tent :)

We've been spending every evening since last Wednesday (aside from last Sunday) at the zoo, so I've been a little busy.  I'd like to report though, that I'm getting rather efficient at packing a take-along dinner for Ezra to eat while walking around the zoo :)
